Ryder System Transportation Manager in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Position Description

As the Transportation manager internally titled, Customer Logistics Manager, you will be responsible for route building, managing between 18 to 25 drivers, ensuring timely loading and delivery of goods, fleet management including but not limited to acquiring rental equipment as needed, managing utilization, and scheduling needed maintenance. In this fast paced and exciting area of our business, you will perform an important central role ensuring a smooth, efficient supply of goods. You will support the Logistics team with all aspects of their transportation needs, ensuring the quality of the products is maintained throughout the supply chain.

  • Maintain active real-time communication between truck drivers and departments to ensure that load pick-up and delivery schedules are met.

  • Manage 18 - 25 drivers and create capacity by maintaining seated trucks and accurate driver time availability.

  • Implement solutions when problems occur that require changes in pick-up and delivery schedules or alterations in assets necessary to meet delivery requirements.

  • Maintain and actively manage the work schedules of assigned drivers to include compliance with DOT hours of service rules.

  • Maintain proper attendance and punctuality to ensure that the department is operated in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

  • Other duties and special projects as assigned by management.


  • Associates degree or 4 years of related experience is required

  • Advanced Level Skills in MS Excel such as keyboard short cuts, creating macros, merge, merge queries, templates, table techniques, and working with images and text

  • Minimum 1 (one) year of supervisory experience required

  • Experience with ground transportation operations including DOT, OSHA and all related safety regulations


  • Bachelor's degree preferred

  • Three to five years experience in logistics, transportation, warehouse or industry related field is preferred

  • Knowledge/Experience in transportation environment (i.e., Shipping, receiving and inventory management, distribution or dispatch preferred)

  • Knowledge of warehouse and or software applications, routing and dispatch software systems preferred

  • Excellent written, verbal and organizational skills preferred

  • Employee relations solutions Individual will be working in a dynamic environment focusing on delivery of continuous measurable improvement to the customer
